Local star Will Clarke will hope to peak at the right time at the European Triathlon Championships in Ireland this Sunday (4th July).
The Waterbeach triathlete picked up his best result of the season with a sixth-placed finish in the Hy-Vee ITU Triathlon Elite Cup in the USA last month, improving on his 11th place in 2009, and will now be looking to build on that performance for GB this weekend.
Clarke has spent the last week training with his national teammates in Portugal and they could provide some of his biggest competition with the likes of Alistair Brownlee and Tim Don among the favourites for gold.
Meanwhile, Stephen Mavin holds out his own hopes of success in the men's 35 to 39 years old age group after performing well at the UK Ironman in Bolton last weekend.
The Somersham triathlete came 16th in his class in a time of 5hr 16min 34sec, but had the honour of being the first racer out of the swimming leg, even leaving the elite competitors trailing in his wake.
