Hunts AC pick up 15 wins at latest East match

Huntingdonshire AC picked up an impressive 15 victories at the latest East Anglian League match held in Colchester.

In the U17 Women’s section, Lily Seach and Laurel Phelan swept the A and B string 300m races, with Seach winning her race by almost three seconds.

In the U17 Men’s category, Hakeem Duckworth-Porter and Ryan Palmer totally dominated the sprints by winning both strings of the 100m and 200m races. Duckworth-Porter excelled with a hand-timed personal best of 11.4 secs in 100m, while 15 year old Palmer went even better with 11.2, topping the club rankings.

Duckworth-Porter and Palmer later contributed to an easy 4x100m relay victory, while Duckworth-Porter got a first place in the high jump.

In the Senior Men’s events, clubmates Paul Hayball and Jonathan Edwards renewed their friendly rivalry in the throwing events. Although competing for the same club and in different strings of the same event, they are spurring each other on to excellent performances as they try to outdo each other.

In the shot putt and javelin, Hayball claimed an A string win and third place respectively, with Edwards winning the B string events, before Edwards outdistanced his club rival to gain the A string victory in the discus and Hayball winning the B string event by a massive 16m.

In the 400m races, Karl Jackson won the A string with veteran Richard Phelan crossing the line seven seconds in front of his nearest rival in the B string race.

Another Hunts AC member in action was Geoff Brewster, competing in the National Veterans Athletics Championships. Brewster rose to the occasion with a superb bronze medal in the M50 1500m.
