Rob Huff produced a top-class drive to salvage a podium finish in race two and move up to third in the standings with 119 points, until a steward's enquiry into a crash saw him drop to 15th after a frustrating day in the World Touring Car Championship at Portimaro in Portugal.
Huff suffered a puncture while running in fourth place in race one which forced him to the back of the field as he finished the contest one lap down.
The Cambridge driver then bounced back in race two, moving his way through the field from 18th on the grid to snatch third place off his Chevrolet teammate Alain Menu in the final lap.
However, a later steward's enquiry into a crash between Huff and BMW's Augusto Farfus saw the 30 year old demoted to 15th spot and remain fourth in the title standings on 104 points.
Reigning champion Gabrielle Tarquini won the second race, his fourth victory of the season, from Chevrolet’s Yvan Muller, who saw his lead over SEAT’s Tarquini in the drivers’ standings cut to 15 points, but increase to 60 from Huff.
The championship moves to Brands Hatch in Kent for rounds 11 and 12 on 18th July where Huff will be looking for an improved performance in his home Grand Prix and to close in on the title leader.
