Local Paralympian supports Disability Sport

Local paralympian, Lauren Steadman attended the Huntingdonshire Disability Sports Forum event on Saturday 4th July at the One Leisure St Ives Outdoor Centre.

This event, organised by Huntingdonshire District Council with the sports forum, has been running since 2002 when the forum was first formed. This event has grown over the years, with the 2010 event attracting over 70 participants of all ages.

Steadman chatted to participants about her experiences as a paralympic swimmer for Team GB and the local clubs where she learnt her trade. She also had a go at some of the different activities that were on offer, proving to be very motivational for the participants who were delighted she could attend.

Councillor Andrew Hansard, whose executive responsibilities include sport and active lifestyles said, ‘The festival would not run without the support of local clubs which offer excellent coaching and opportunities to get involved with sport on a regular basis; Hunts Howzat Cricket Club, CamBoccia, St Ives Rangers Football Club and Hemingford County Squash Club all deserve a big thank you for their time and support.

Huntingdonshire Disability Sports Forum would also like to thank all the other volunteers; all their support is invaluable on the day. Special thanks must go to Leonard Cheshire Disability in Brampton for providing all the trophies and medals that were presented for each activity.’
