Money and support available for 50+ classes

LIVING SPORT, through Dancing for Fun and Better Health, are introducing bursaries to help set up new dance and movement classes for the 50+ in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, with applications open from today (Monday 26th July 2010).

LIVING SPORT are piloting a bursary scheme to help encourage dance schools, teachers, community groups and organisations to set up classes. It’s a great way to provide more dance opportunities to the 50+ community within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough with financial assistance and training.

Dancing for Fun and Better Health currently delivers a county wide programme of classes for the 50+ ranging from Chair Based movement in sheltered housing to Tea dances and Tai Chi in community halls and Libraries.

By 2020, over half of adults will be aged 50 plus, with increasing life expectancy the balance between young and old is changing. With these changes brings opportunities that business and organisations cannot ignore, both in the promotion of health and wellbeing keeping our aging population healthy, happy and independent as well as financially through a potential source of income.

Age UK recent publication ‘The ‘grey pound' set to hit £100bn mark’ released in April 2010 describes ‘Older consumers have grown into a market force to be reckoned with, new figures reveal the amount of money spent annually by people over the age of 65 in the UK is set to hit the £100 billion mark’ something that Age UK suggest has now already occurred.

Claire Smith, Coordinator for Dancing for Fun and Better Health, says ‘with an aging population and their increasing spending power businesses need to consider adapting and expanding their cliental, that’s why we want to help diversify and introduce 50+ dance and movement opportunities through applying to the bursary – it’s a great chance to try something new at less financial risk.’

For more information and the 1 page proposal form for the bursary please contact Claire Smith on 01487 849912, or email Claire.Smith@livingsport.co.uk.
