ITV has launched a nationwide search to find role models and healthy heroes as part of the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards.
Regional news programmes in England, Wales and Northern Ireland have joined forces to invite viewers to nominate outstanding individuals for the ITV Feelgood Factor Award. It’s the second year of the ITV Feelgood Factor Award, as part of ITV’s support for the Department of Health's Change4Life campaign.
The title will go to an outstanding individual who supports and enables others to change their lives for the better. ITV viewers will be asked to put forward inspirational champions who encourage, by example, others to lead healthier lives. People like youth team coaches who introduce a generation of youngsters to amateur – and often professional – sport.
Exceptional role models might include sports teachers, fitness instructors, medical professionals, social workers and community champions who go the extra mile in setting others on the road to well-being or sporting excellence.
Last year’s inspirational winner was Andy Dalby-Welsh from Brighton.
Andy, who is registered blind, is the driving force behind initiatives which enable disadvantaged and disabled young people to play sports. Through 'Cricket for Change' and 'Sport for Choice' Andy ensures these youngsters are given opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach.
Nominees will share a determination to make it possible for those in their neighbourhood and beyond to have the confidence to make positive changes to their own lives. People with a “can do” approach to raising the aspirations of those whose own life choices are endangering their health or well-being.
Nominations can be made via www.itv.com/prideofbritain and for more information please contact joanna.pearman@itv.com. The deadline for nominations is Friday 27th August.
Each of the regional finalists and a guest will be invited to attend the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards which are sponsored by Littlewoods.com at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London’s Park Lane in November. The two hour Pride of Britain Awards show hosted by Carol Vorderman will be screened on ITV1 in the autumn.
