Top athletes Sir Chris Hoy, Michael Johnson and John Amaechi were on hand to help mark two years to go until the London 2012 Games with a special event held at the Olympic Park yesterday.
Sir Chris Hoy was joined by London Mayor Boris Johnson and local school pupils to ride the first lap of the Velodrome, while Johnson took part in a sprint on a temporary track in the Olympic Stadium started by Lord Seb Coe and Amaechi shot the first hoop in the Basketball Arena.
Seventy members of Visa Team 2012 - London 2012 hopefuls - walked over the main bridge into the Olympic Park, including local gymnastics star and Beijing bronze medallist Louis Smith.
Dance group Diversity, Olympic champion Sally Gunnell and CBeebies presenter Cerrie Burnell were on hand to launch the official Games-time volunteering programme. Up to 70,000 'London 2012 Games Makers' will be needed to make the Games happen.
The Mayor of London launched the 'London Ambassador' programme too, which will recruit 8,000 volunteers to help guide the millions of visitors who will travel to London for the Games get around and enjoy a truly memorable stay in the capital.
A number of London 2012 partners and licensees also joined in the two years to go celebrations, with a giant screen and activities in Trafalgar Square hosted by Panasonic; and the first soft toys of Olympic mascot Wenlock going on sale.
Tickets for the Olympics do not go on sale until the spring of 2011 but 1.4m people have already registered their details, which you can do by visiting the London 2012 website.
