Simon Hoppe made it three wins out of three in this year’s PACTRAC Mini-Series as he added yet another sub-50 minute performance.
The four-time European medallist produced the second fastest time in each of the three disciplines but his consistency saw him win overall.
Neil Tandy led the swimmers out of the pool following the 400 yards swim with Hoppe just 16 seconds behind. Jaap Flikweert was a further 28 seconds back but produced the fastest split on the 10 mile bike stage to close to within 17 seconds of Hoppe, who had moved to the front.
Emma Cranfield was the first lady across line, but not without a fight, as Christina Cork again took the female bike split record down, this time to 24.52. Cranfield had to make up a 79 seconds deficit on the run and only took the lead again just after the halfway point.
The final race of the series takes place this week and four men are still in the title hunt (it would have been six but neither Hoppe nor Flikweert are competing tonight). Flikweert could have reached a potential score of 43 - but he is saving himself for the World Long Course Championships this weekend.
In the ladies competition, just two people remain in contention. Cork closed to within a point of Roz Giles with her second place and both have the same worst score of eight.
