Dominic Lea was one of a number of local tennis stars to miss out on success after suffered an agonising defeat in the final of the Donarbon Open Grade Three tournament, hosted by Cambridge Lawn Tennis Club and attended by talented youngsters from all over the country.
Playing at his home club, Lea enjoyed some excellent wins in the under 12 age group before losing a championship tie-break 12-10 to top seed Salil Navapurkar from Middlesex in the final.
Cambridge's Stella Gordon reached the semi-finals of the girls under 14 competition before losing to top seed Yasmina El Sayed from Nottinghamshire, while also reaching the quarter-finals of the under-16 tournament, along with Papworth's Zoe Douglas, but neither were able to progress.
There was success in the doubles though, with Douglas and Alice Taylor defeating Alex Jones and Pippa Scotcher in three sets.
Other local competitors at the tournament were Ben Clark, Will Huyton, Jack Thorndike, Alex Wardley, Molly MacDonald, Charlie Taylor, Zachary Cox and Olivia Clegg, all making the third round or better.
