The National Portrait Gallery/BT Road to 2012 Project are celebrating those who are collectively making the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games happen.
BT, the official communications services partner for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, is supporting the National Portrait Gallery to create a photographic record of the people who are contributing to this exciting event. The galleries will be open each day from 20 July – 26 September, 10.00am – 6.00pm (Thursdays and Fridays to 9.00pm)
The National Portrait Gallery is commissioning a sequence of new portraits by Brian Griffin and Bettina von Zwehl. Sitters include high-profile figures and world-class athletes, as well as those working and training behind the scenes. Together they epitomise the value that the National Portrait Gallery, BT and the Olympic movement place on inspirational achievement. All of the commissioned work will feature on the website together with interviews, behind-the-scenes shots, East London perspectives and the opportunity for everyone to contribute their own inspirational images.
Setting Out is the culmination of the first year of the National Portrait Gallery/BT Road to 2012 Project. Two further exhibitions featuring commissioned portraits by at least four more photographers will take place in the summers of 2011 and 2012.
