Huntingdon sailor Giles Scott claimed gold for Great Britain at the Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta in Weymouth, ending teammate Ben Ainslie’s six year dominance of the Finn class.
The 23 year old was able to adopt a cautious approach during Saturday’s medal race, allowing him to manage the 16.4-point lead he had held over Ainslie by finishing eighth.
Triple Olympic gold medallist Ainslie, competing in the Finn class for the first time since his success at the 2008 Games, finished fourth overall, while Ed Wright was fifth to secure World Cup series gold for his consistency across the season.
Olympic and world champion Paul Goodison claimed silver for Great Britain in the Laser class and there were bronze medals on home water for Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell (470), Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes (49er), Nick Dempsey (RS:X men) and Bryony Shaw (RS:X women).
