The weekend saw success for Huntingdonshire AC on both the track and the road for athletes with ages ranging from 15 up to veteran’s level.
At the Cambridge Park Run 5k race, Dave Connell finished in third place, running his best ever time of 17:05 for the course, while Christina Marshall celebrated her recent 17th birthday by taking over half a minute from her previous best time with 37:55 at the Thorney 5-mile race.
Huntingdonshire AC sprinters sparkled in the final Eastern Young Athletes League meet of the season at Peterborough. Meredith Ash, 15, stormed to easy victories in the Under 17 Women’s 100m and 200m, winning each race by half a second or more, with still one more year to go in this age category.
Ryan Palmer similarly picked up wins in his two sprint races in the Under 17 Men’s age group. His Peterborough AC opponent, who shares a similar personal best in the 200m, lost out to Palmer by 0.5 secs which suggests there’s still more to come from the young Hunts AC sprinter.
In the U17M 800m A race, George Allen ran away from the field to win by almost five seconds. The highlight of the weekend came when the Hunts AC Veteran’s men’s team was notified of its qualification for the Eastern Veteran’s League Finals at Milton Keynes next month.
