Sport is contributing £2,241bn to the economy in the East of England, up 92% since 2000, and is the fastest growth of any English region.
A report by Sport England finds the growth in the sport sector has outstripped the English economy as a whole, with the east region showing the highest per capita spending on games at £404 per person.
More than 62,000 people in the East have sport-related jobs, accounting for 2.2% of employment in the region, above the national average.
Recent growth has been driven by the London Olympics and a long-term Sport England policy to increase participation in sport.
