Several field eventers threw in good performances at the Peterborough City Games on Bank Holiday Monday.
Peterborough Athletic Club’s meeting has long been a popular end of season event for athletes near and far and there were plenty of local winners.
British junior international Robert Mohan improved his own Nene Valley Harriers and Lincolnshire Under 20 club record with an excellent throw of 17.70m in the shot.
Mohan, whose best going into the meeting was the 17.56m that won the England indoor title during the winter, produced a good series with other efforts of 17.66m, 17.31m and 17.30m. He also broke the Nene Valley Under 20 record in the discus, where he finished fourth behind Hunts Athletic Club’s Jonathan Edwards and host club pair Martin Tinkler and Adam Smith.
Tinkler had gone close to his personal best (PB) when finishing second to Mohan in the shot while Edwards also won the hammer, where he was just outside the club record he set two days earlier.
Andrej Sidorkin of Nene Valley chalking up a shot and discus double, smashing his PB in the former.
James Murtagh was another thrower in great form. He had to settle for second in the Under 17 men’s javelin but he did add five metres to his PB. In the same age group, former English Schools champion Joel Grenfell predictably won the long jump and was also just outside his PB in the 100m when finishing second to clubmate Alex McNally.
McNally enjoyed an excellent afternoon, also winning the 200m in a PB with fellow PAC speedster Ashley Watson in second. Max Everest was another host club athlete to live up to favouritism when taking the sprint hurdles.
Daniel Batty (Nene Valley) recorded a sprint double in the Under 15 boys age group, as did Sharna Emanuel for the hosts in the Under 20 women’s section.
Emily Moss has enjoyed an excellent season for Peterborough Athletic Club and she set a PB to win the senior women’s 100m hurdles as well as taking half-a-second off her 200m time when finishing runner-up to the impressive Bernice Williams of Birchfield.
Georgia Woods had an excellent meeting for the hosts, winning a medal of each colour in the Under 17 women’s age group. She won the javelin, was second in the 80m hurdles - where she improved her PB for the fifth meeting in a row - and took bronze in the high jump.
Ebony Ogle of Peterborough Athletic Club recorded yet another sprint double in the Under 13 age group while Emily Maltby was again in winning form in the Under 17 women’s 100m. Her Nene Valley clubmate Emma Hornsby had to settle for three second places although she did add four centimetres to her PB in the Under 15 girls long jump.
Werrington Joggers’ only winner of the meeting was Race for Life victor Kelly Green, who improved her own club record in the Under 17 women’s 1500m. Another 1500m club record came in the Under 13 boys age group as Nene Valley’s Alex Hampson won impressively.
Northborough’s Stephanie Williams of Herts Phoenix won the Under 17 women’s 400m while Hunts Athletic Club’s Christian Roberts, representing Cambridge University, won over the same distance in the senior men’s age group.
