The Dragon Fencing Club, run by father and son Alan and Philip West, was established two years ago after successful beginner classes in Hardwick and since then, has been delivering unusual but beloved sessions to pupils in the village.
The club has two groups of children aged 10 and 11 with the aim to take beginner, junior fencers up to local then regional and eventually national fencing standards. The sport is very good for fitness and agility says Philip.
Recently, the club received a grant of £3,000 from the 20K Giveaway, which will be used to buy a range of equipment such foils – a light, thrusting weapon – plastrons and scoring boxes.
