Wisbech Hockey Ladies third title in a row

Wisbech Ladies won the annual Ida Hassall Tournament for the third year in a row after winning all three of their matches at Bretton Gate.

Despite fielding a number of unfamiliar faces, Wisbech started off well with a 4-1 victory over St Ives. Laura Overland scored a quickfire double and Erika Burrell and Lisa Williamson added second-half strikes to give Wisbech a comfortable victory.

They then faced City of Peterborough and found themselves a goal down as the hosts started impressively. Captain Clare Pateman scored from a penalty corner but Wisbech battled back with Overland levelling before Williamson netted the winner.

In their final game, Connie Anchor - who had stepped up from the third team to play for Wisbech - slotted the ball home to make it 1-0 against Bourne. Williamson then scored for the third successive game to put Wisbech out of reach.
