Dragon boats brought colour to the River Cam – and raised more than £17,000 for charity.
About 2,000 people flocked to the river at Fen Ditton on Saturday for the annual Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival.Forty teams took to the water to raise vital funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (Each), which has a centre in Milton.One boat capsized, but no-one was hurt.
Families who came to support the event were also entertained with fairground rides, face-painting and plenty of food and drink.
Pirates of the Kier-ibbean, made up of employees from Kier, were the winning team.Blazing Paddles (Volca International Limited), Pith Takers (MMUK + MM Flowers) and High Class Oars (Isleham Fresh Produce LTD) came in second, third and fourth place.
