CSV are urging people to get active at the “ALL BEING WELL” Roadshow in Peterborough
The national charity Community Service Volunteers (CSV) with support from the Big Lottery Fund, are holding an “All Being Well” Roadshow on Saturday 25th September 2010. The event will take place on the Cathedral Square in the centre of the city, and aims to give information and advice to the public about how to be more healthy and active. It is a TOTALLY FREE EVENT with free fruit, stepometers and information packs to be given away, along with lots of information and goodies from local partners. This is the last big All Being Well Roadshow, so it promises to be a fantastic event.
The All Being Well Roadshows are designed to help improve and promote healthier lifestyles to the Eastern Region through three main topics; Healthy Eating, Regular Physical Exercise and Good Mental Health. It is suggested that 3 sessions of moderate exercise should be undertaken three times a week to live a healthy lifestyle, but only 16% of people living in Peterborough participate in this level of exercise, which is below the national average.
This upcoming event in the centre of Peterborough hopes to change this. The roadshow will provide the general public with the chance to join in with exciting free activities and talk to professionals to find out how to lead a healthier, happier life. The wide range of demonstrations will include yoga, belly dancing and hula hooping, so there should be something for everyone to take part in. As well as the opportunity to have a go on the Blend-a-bike (an innovative smoothie making bike, run on pedal-power!) and receive a free hand or head massage.
Local organisations will be attending the day with information and activities. This will be through information stalls covering health, sports, wellbeing, volunteering and learning. On the day there will be representatives attending from over a dozen organisations including Vivacity, Living Sport, Ceroc Peterborough, Cambridge and Peterborough Mental Health Team, Peterborough DIAL, Age Concern, Vinvolved Peterborough, Young Lives and Peterborough Centre for Voluntary Services and Volunteer Centre. Also on the day there will be a range of health care professionals who will be giving advice about different aspects of leading a healthy lifestyle including giving up smoking, sexual health and diet.
Adding extra glamour to the proceedings, Jane Smith from BBC Radio Cambridgeshire will be hosting throughout the day.
Ewan Phillips, All Being Well Roadshow Coordinator said “I am really looking forward to the All Being Well Roadshow in Peterborough. It’ll be great to spread the message about how just little changes in everyday lifestyle can make a massive impact on your physical health and mental wellbeing. We have loads of fantastic partners joining us on the day, providing some fun demonstrations and lots of really useful information, advice and support. We would love as many people as possible to come along and join in the fun and find out just how easy it is to build a healthier lifestyle”.
