Kids encouraged to join the Great Eastern Run

With just two weeks to go to the Perkins Great Eastern Run, there is still time to sign up for the fun run.

More youngsters from local schools are wanted to enter the race and make it one of the best ever.

The exciting half marathon and 4km fun run will take place on Sunday, 10 October, 2010, and to continue the theme of 10.10.10, runners will leave the start line at exactly 10.10am.

The half marathon and fun run was revived in 2006 after a 10-year break, and since then it has gone from strength to strength, attracting thousands of individuals and running clubs, both locally and across the country.

This year the ET is backing the bid to encourage more local schools and youngsters to join in the fun, with the Schools Challenge race.

Organised by Peterborough City Council, the popular event looks set to be bigger and better than ever this year.

Although there is room for thousands of pairs of trainers on the 13.1km city course, those interested should not hesitate.

The race will start at the newly refurbished Cathedral Square, with the finish line on The Embankment as in previous years.

Schools can take part in the fun run and enter the Schools Challenge with prizes for the school which raises the most money and the school which enters the most pupils.

Prizes that schools can win include:

A television from Sainsbury’s to the school which enters the most pupils

A team kit from ChromaSport to the school which raises the most money for Anna’s Hope charity

A Wii game to the boy and girl who raise the most money for Anna’s Hope

A trophy donated by Anna’s Hope to each school which enters more than 25 pupils.

All finishers will get a medal and organisers say all children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.
