Fran Williamson's worst fears have come to fruition for the London Paralympics.
The 25-year-old Cottenham swimmer spoke to the Cambridge News last week about her concerns about the direction of Paralympic sport.
Among the issues she raised were opportunities and access for sports stars with more severe impairments, the media perception and worries that events for lower-graded competitors - from S1 to S5 - would be axed.
Williamson had seen her disciplines reduced from four at the Athens Paralympics in 2004 to two in Beijing in 2008.
At the world championships in August, she won bronze in the 4x50m medley relay, silver in the S3 freestyle and gold in the S3 backstroke.
But the last of those - along with a number of others - has now been removed from the list of swimming events for the London Paralympics 2012.
The withdrawal of the backstroke leaves Williamson with only one individual race.
