Sports Awards nomination deadline - 4th Oct

LIVING SPORT has once again partnered with Cambridge News and BBC Radio Cambridgeshire  to host the fifth annual County Sports Awards. Nominations for all the awards are now only open for a few more days until Monday 4 October. Anybody can nominate a person or club who they believe have done an excellent job in inspiring others in the local community, be it a Sports Star, Club, School or Unsung Hero. We need your help to give the recognition individuals, schools, teams and clubs in your area deserve. There are ten awards this year including one new addition for local teams to aspire to, for which all county winners will be put forward to the BBC East Sports Awards.

Winners shall be announced at the Awards dinner on Wednesday 17 November at the East region’s premier venue the East of England Showground in Peterborough. Shortlisted nominees will get a pair of free tickets to attend the ceremony and also get discounted rates on more tickets for family and friends.

Has someone you know don’t something outstanding this year? Why not give them the recognition they deserve. For the individually talented nominees the awards are the ADVANCE PERFORMANCE GREENWHEEL CYCLES Sports Performer Award, HUNTINGDONSHIRE REGIONAL COLLEGE Disabled Sports Performer  and the PETERBOROUGH REGIONAL COLLEGE Young Sports Performer. For the hard working volunteers nominated the awards are the Services to Sport and the Young Community Volunteer. Coaches may be nominated for the Coach of the Year.  Clubs shall also  have the chance to take home the Community Club of the Year  (Amateur)  or Team of the Year Award and for the schools in the county there is the  RAWLINSONS School of the Year. Furthermore, the Power of Sport Award can be obtained by an individual or club that you feel has made a sufficient impact on the community through addressing the needs of young people or under-represented groups, and demonstrating the ‘POWER’ of sport

Last year the county had  three winners  that were also rewarded at regional level for their achievements. Charlotte Edwards, Double world cup winning captain of the England Women’s Cricket Team won Sports Performer of the Year,  Charlotte Cox 18, from Cambridge and Coleridge Athletics Club who has Down Syndrome has had an extraordinary successful year last year. She won gold at the Mencap National Championships in the 100m and Silver in the 200m, won the Disabled Sports Performer.  The third winner was Paris Rose-Brixey also 18, winner of the Young Community Volunteer of the Year,  volunteers in several different sports amassing over 200 hour. Winning coach Sam Buck from the Cambridge Dive Team also when on to scoop the Sports Coach UK national award for Young Coach of the Year.
