Sports Awards Categories 2017

The Living Sport Sports Awards will take place on Thursday 23rd November 2017 at the Burgess Hall, St Ives. There  is likely to be 15 categories for the Living Sport Sports Awards 2017.

*NOMINATIONS WILL OPEN AT THE END OF AUGUST 2017*

Three finalists will be selected per award category with the discretion of judges to also award ‘Judges’ Choice’ based on all nominations and also the option of recognising ‘Highly Commended’.

COACH OF THE YEAR                                                            

During the past year this individual will have:

  • Committed to providing the highest standard of coaching to their performers, whether individuals or teams
  • Made a significant impact in their sport by improving the ability to perform of a team(s) and/or individual(s)
  • Helped other coaches to develop
  • Had a positive and encouraging attitude that has inspired and made a positive impact on others
  • A current, recognised coaching qualification and where applicable a NGB licence

COMMUNITY CLUB OF THE YEAR (AMATEUR)

During the past year this club will have:

  • Made a significant impact to the development of sport in their community
  • Made a considerable impact within their sport
  • Been open and accessible to all members of the community
  • Committed to training, recruiting and recognising volunteers and coaches
  • Achieved or maintained its status as a quality club i.e. Club Mark

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

During the past year this individual will have:

  • Given up a substantial amount of time to volunteer in local sport in any capacity
  • Made a significant impact to a local club, community, organisation or school
  • Shown a commitment to personal development, teamwork and supporting the development of others

DISABLED SPORTS PERFORMER OF THE YEAR

During the past year this individual will have:

  • Achieved success in their chosen sport(s)
  • Made a significant impact in their sport or in their club/team
  • Been a role model for others and has raised the profile of their sport
  • Made considerable improvements in their performances and achievements

JONNIE PEACOCK AWARD

During the past year this person will have:

  • Shown great personal endeavour to overcome adversity
  • Achieved something above and beyond to help others or make a difference
  • Made a significant impact to a sports club, organisation, community or school locally
  • Been a role model for others and raised the profile of their sport / cause locally

MATTHEW WARN POWER OF SPORT

This award will be made to a sport project or initiative that is making an impact and is really involving the local community using sport. The sport project or initiative will have:

  • Addressed the needs of young people or under-represented groups in sport, e.g. black and minority ethnic groups, people with disabilities, women’s groups, low income groups or older people (over 45)
  • Increased the take up of sport, or addressed the drop off in participation post school age
  • Demonstrated the “power of sport” to change lives

PRIMARY SCHOOL OF THE YEAR

During the past year this educational establishment will have:

  • Given its students a wide range of opportunities to participate in high quality PE and extra-curricular sport
  • Enabled teams and/or individuals to make considerable improvements in sport
  • Been committed to teacher/coach training to continually improve the quality of sport in their primary school
  • Shown continual commitment to school-club links and working within the local community

SECONDARY SCHOOL OF THE YEAR

During the past year this educational establishment will have:

  • Given its students a wide range of opportunities to participate in high quality PE and extra-curricular sport
  • Enabled teams and/or individuals to make considerable improvements in sport
  • Been committed to teacher/coach training to continually improve the quality of sport in their secondary school
  • Shown continual commitment to school-club/college-club links and working within the local community

SERVICES TO SPORT

Over a number of years this individual will have:

  • Made an outstanding contribution to local sport
  • Made a significant impact to a local club, community, organisation or school
  • Shown a commitment to personal development, teamwork and supporting the development of others

SPORTS PERFORMER OF THE YEAR

During the past year this individual will have:

  • Achieved success in their chosen sport(s)
  • Made a significant impact in their sport or in their club/team
  • Been a role model for others and have raised the profile of their sport
  • Made considerable improvements in their performances and achievements

TEAM OF THE YEAR                                                               

During the past year this team will have:

  • Achieved success in their chosen sport(s)
  • Made a significant impact within their sport
  • Been role models for others and raised the profile of their sport
  • Made considerable improvements in their performances and achievements

WORKPLACE OF THE YEAR Sports Awards CategoriesSports Awards Finalists

Nominations are invited for businesses committed to improving sport and physical activity participation of their workforce and within their local community. Nominations will be considered against the following criteria:

  • Evidence of commitment to a physically active workforce including promoting opportunities to employees
  • Evidence of supporting local community sport e.g. sponsoring/supporting events, clubs and/or other organisations, including enabling their workforce to volunteer
  • Can demonstrate key achievements relating to sport and physical activity

YOUNG COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

During the past year this individual, who is 18 or under on the 24th November 2016, will have:

  • Given up a substantial amount of time to volunteer in local sport in any capacity
  • Made a significant impact to a local club, community, organisation or school
  • Shown a commitment to personal development, teamwork and supporting the development of others

YOUNG SPORTS PERFORMER OF THE YEAR

During the past year this individual, who is 18 or under on the 24th November 2016, will have:

  • Achieved success in their chosen sport(s)
  • Made a significant impact in their sport or in their team
  • Been a role model for others and has raised the profile of their sport
  • Made considerable improvements in their performances and achievements

Highly Commended = someone who has just missed out on being a finalist, but worthy of receiving recognition as a strong nominee at the Ceremony and within the various streams e.g. Event Programme

Judges’ Choice = a nominee, who isn’t shortlisted as a finalist, that has shown outstanding achievement in 2017. This could be a ‘Highly Commended’ nominee or a nominee that doesn’t fit within the criteria of any award category
