How to Fund a Workplace Initiative

Our good health is of the utmost importance, without it life is proven to be much more difficult. Active Workplaces also realises how difficult it can be to start activity, time is precious and costs can be high.

We understand that the cost of trying something new, sometimes doesn't seem to appeal, however the benefits of better health and quality of life are worth it.

 • Better Health programme outcomes bring cost savings that can be set against the expenditure of running them. An example of this is that some Insurance companies can lower their business and health insurance premiums if better health initiatives are introduced. It's always worth asking your insurance company if they offer this.

•Offer an employee workplace pledge/agreement system linked to appraisals, whereby the employee would engage in workplace health initiatives and take a pro-active approach to improving health; and the organisation in turn would commit to providing health initiatives.

 • Time pledges can form part of the agreement, such that the workplace would offer time each week for employees to take part in health initiatives, which employees would balance back by starting earlier, working later or volunteering to help organise the health initiatives.

 • Form a Sports and Social Club committee and make a case to the company to provide start up funding.  Clubs and groups have a better have a better chance at accessing Sport and Community funding, and Health and Wellbeing funding.

 • Ask all employees to make small weekly contributions to a Sports and Social Club to generate income for running initiatives and request the company to “top-up” with contributions.

 • Ask employees to self-fund health initiatives, and ask the company to provide incentives or prizes for those initiatives.
