Business in the community – The Workwell campaign

The Workwell campaign, formally Business Action on Health, aims to highlight the business benefits of a more engaged workforce through the combination of "good work" and wellness.

Food and Drink Federation – Workplace Wellbeing

In 2008, FDF partnered with the Business in the Community (BiTC) charity on its Business Action on Health Campaign. This is a business-led campaign which has been developed by BiTC to help companies better understand how to promote health and wellbeing in their organisations for the benefit of their people as well as their bottom line.

Health and Safety Executive “Health, Work and Wellbeing”

'Health, Work Wellbeing' is a cross-departmental government programme to improve the health and well-being of people of working age

How is HSE contributing to health, work and well-being?

A number of HSE’s initiatives contribute to the overall aims of the programme including:

Stress Programme

Stress at work is a major issue, if you want to see how big, see the stats, but together we can successfully manage and prevent it. HSE can help you prevent work related stress and comply with the law.

Managing Sickness Absence and Return to Work Programme

Sickness absence can have a big impact on the productivity of your business and the life of your workers. If not managed effectively it can have devastating effects on business costs and the quality of life of the employee concerned. This website outlines an approach to help employers and managers manage sickness absence and return to work.

The Musculoskeletal Programme

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) affect muscles, joints, tendons and other parts of the musculoskeletal system. They are the most common occupational illness in Great Britain. Injury can happen while doing any activity that involves some movement of the body, from heavy lifting to typing. Workers in almost every sort of job are at some risk.

The Disease Reduction Programme

Workplace exposure to substances, including chemicals and dusts, can cause pain, suffering, ill health and sometimes death.

The aim of the Disease Reduction Programme (DRP) is to reduce ill health that results from failures to properly control hazardous or dangerous substances in the workplace by encouraging healthier working practices, reducing exposure to potentially harmful substances including chemicals and dusts and ultimately reducing the cases of work-related ill health.

Leading Health and Safety at Work

Leadership guidance for all directors, governors, trustees, officers and their equivalents in the private, public and third sectors.

It applies to organisations of all sizes; small businesses and major hazard industries.

Looking after your business

Getting hurt at work or becoming ill through work is not a pleasant subject to think about. The reality is that over 200 people a year lose their lives at work in Britain. In addition, around 150 000 nonfatal injuries are reported each year, and an estimated 2 million suffer from ill health caused or made worse by work.

The mistake is to believe that these things happen in highly unusual or exceptional circumstances that never occur in your workplace. This is not the case. Some basic thinking and acting beforehand could usually have prevented these things from happening.

Workers: health and safety

All workers, whether they are permanent staff, agency or contractors, need to be aware of issues that affect their health and safety at work.
