What is National Citizen Service?
National Citizen Service is a new, ambitious Government programme to develop the skills and potential of teenagers, in particular 16 year olds, to get more engaged with their communities and become active and responsible citizens.
NCS promotes a more cohesive society by bringing young people together from different backgrounds and supporting their transition into adulthood. The more engaged young people are with society, the more we can create positive change in local communities.
How does the programme work?
All young people participating in National Citizen Service pilot programmes will have a common experience, wherever they live and whatever their background. The programme runs for three weeks, full time, plus young people spend 30 hours volunteering in their own time. Here’s a guide to the programme.
Is the programme only for 16 year olds?
NCS is a unique programme for year 11 pupils who are 16 by 31st August only. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, take on exciting challenges and even improve their CVs in preparation for the next steps in life.
