LIVING SPORT is committed to ensure that regardless of age, culture, disability, gender, language, racial origin, religious belief or sexual identity children, young people and vulnerable adults have the right to be safeguarded and protected from any forms of abuse, harm, mistreatment or neglect.
Following that commitment, LIVING SPORT has been working closely with different partners, promoting and/or organising diverse Safeguarding events. These type of events are key to make sure that the safeguarding message is shared across all organisations throughout the county.
LIVING SPORT delivered two Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport Conferences in partnership with Cambridgeshire Football Association and Cambridgeshire Cricket Board in September 2010 and March 2011.
'Crossing the line' and 'Not in our club!' were both overall successes. These events both included a very powerful play performed by the Geese Theatre Company, exploring welfare issues within a sports environment. Its aim was to raise awareness about child protection in sport throughout the county.
They provided an opportunity to discuss and debate, reflect on the past or find solutions to current problems, with the objective of preventing child protection situations arising in sport.
Rachel Tarr, National Child Protection Manager at the FA said: “Geese Theatre Company provide an inspiring and unique insight into understanding the safeguards that need to be in place in sports clubs as well as the consequences if this doesn’t happen. Definitely an event not to be missed, it deals with realities and solutions. I can’t stress enough how much of an added value it is for welfare officers to be accompanied by at least one member of the committee. I wish this was available for all clubs across the country.”
