Sport Unlimited

LIVING SPORT, between September 2008 and March 2011, engaged with a national programme called Sport Unlimited. Through the programme LIVING SPORT were able to engage with a wide range of organisations to help deliver 8 weekly coaching sessions in various sports to young people aged between 5 and 19 who were semi sport.

Over the course of the programme within Cambridgeshire & Peterborough 10,173 young people were retained within an individual project (for a participant to be retained they needed to attend at least 5 out of the 8 sessions available). This retained figure was only achievable because over 12,000 young people participated in over 600 individually supported projects across the county.

Over £295,000 was secured and distributed by LIVING SPORT during the programme to a wide portfolio of organisations, including sports clubs, national governing bodies, leisure centres, schools and youth clubs. The funding supported a number of different aspects associated with each individual activity. This included coaching fee, equipment cost, venue hire or transport.

The Sport Unlimited project over the last 3 years has made a huge difference to organisations that are looking to develop their engagement with young people. The funding has helped create a large number of new opportunities for young people to try sports and activities that they would not had the opportunity to try before.

Despite the Sport Unlimited project coming to an end, organisations within Cambridgeshire & Peterborough have another opportunity to secure funding support to deliver coaching sessions to young people. This is through a programme called, Sportivate. For more information on Sportivate please visit the Sportivate section of our website.

LIVING SPORT would like to thank everyone involved in making Sport Unilimted a huge success within Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and look forward to emulating that success with the new Sportivate programme.
