Sporting Champions

Sport England has a national Sporting Champions scheme that brings world class athletes face-to-face with young people and young adults to inspire and motivate them to participate in sport.

A team of current and retired elite athletes have been recruited based on their wealth of experience and enthusiasm for sport as well as the ability to work with young people and young adults with the aspiration of increasing participation in sport.

This scheme is aligned with the national Sportivate programme and offers a series of visits to support the delivery and increase the likelihood of growing the participation base, retaining young people and young adults throughout their Sportivate coaching programmes and successfully transition them into sustainable club sport.

The Sporting Champions will be involved in the Sportivate sessions by:

-       Encouraging sustained participation in the sport

-       Conducting session activities during the project

-       Sharing stories about their sporting careers

-       Showing a high enthusiasm for sport for inspiration
