Team East for Skills
Into work through arts, sports and volunteering
The aim is to use the inspiration of London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to help unemployed people to improve their skills, engage in volunteering activity and in some cases gain employment. The scheme promotes the Olympic/Paralympic ideals which celebrate mind, body and spirit through sport, physical activity, culture, heritage, education and volunteering.
The programme will leave a legacy of trained and talented volunteers who will support the aspiration of London 2012, by increasing participation in the sport and cultural sectors.
Team East for Skills is made up of a regional consortium of arts, sports and voluntary organisations. The delivery organisation for Cambridgeshire are Momentum Arts.
The programme is intended for people
- 16 years or over
- Out of paid work and looking for employment or
- Returning to work after a break
- Unemployed and considering self employment
- Eligible to work in the UK
- Seeking volunteering opportunities
The programme is designed as follows:
WARM UP
All Participants - 10 hours over two days. These happen at various venues and at regular intervals around the county.
A motivational and enjoyable two day course, incorporating some creative and/or sports activity, to establish aspirations and training needs, boost confidence and develop team skills. You will complete an Individual Action Plan and have an Exit interview with your tutor. The core content includes personal skills/ aims audit / team building/ confidence building / self awareness. You will have the opportunity to try out 1 of 3 activities, for example visual arts, film making, event management.
You will then progress on to long-term volunteering, employment of 16 hours or more or job searching.
BRONZE LEVEL
Most Participants - min. 20 hours activities
Specialist courses will focus on enhancing transferable skills such as leadership, team work action planning, communications and presentation. A mentoring programme and volunteering placement will provide relevant experience. Courses include Event Management (sports or culture), Enterprise Rehearsal (having a go at small scale business) or Sports Leadership through coaching
You will then progress on to long-term volunteering, employment of 16 hours or more or job searching.
SILVER LEVEL
Few Participants
A more advanced programme which will broaden and develop skills, moving participants closer to work or vocational training opportunities. A mentoring programme, volunteering placement and work placement will provide relevant experience. Followed by work or job searching/training and/or volunteering.
