Active New Communities

Moving house is exciting but can be a big life change.  It takes time and effort to get settled into your new home or community and this can impact on your normal routines including when you exercise.

Do you want to stay informed about sport and physical activity opportunities on your doorstep? Active New Communities can help!

There is a wealth of evidence to suggest that active people benefit from an enhanced quality of life with improved physical and mental wellbeing however, even those with strict exercise regimes are at risk of change. There are numerous major life changes which can cause a sudden halt to a regular exercise routine such as having a baby, a long term health condition, children starting school, a new job, moving house etc.

We understand that you might have left behind your usual gym, exercise class or sports club and we recognise that in a brand new housing development these groups are often yet to be established, making it hard for you to stay active.

If you have relocated to one of our focus growth sites and want to stay active, would like the challenge of something new or want to return to activity after a break; then the Active New Communities project can help you to:

  • Stay informed about sport and physical activity opportunities on your doorstep
  • Shape the sport and physical activity offer within your community
  • Develop your skills to help others become active – lead, coach, volunteer
  • Meet local residents and make new friends!

Active New Communities is a partnership project funded by Sport England, delivered across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Delivery partners include: Living Sport, Cambridgeshire County Council, South Cambridgeshire District Council, Huntingdonshire District Council, Peterborough City Council and Vivacity, developers Urban and Civic and Bedford Pilgrims Housing Association.

Our target sites for 2020 are Northstowe, Alconbury Weald and Hauxton.

For information about activities and events in Northstowe, Alconbury Weald and Hauxton visit the website.
