Coaching Older People Research shows that as people age they are far less likely to complete 30 minutes of physical activity per week. This is a worrying trend as physical activity can tackle conditions such as poor mental health, loneliness, dementia and heart problems. Living Sport want to develop a coaching workforce that is skilled and confident in helping older people be physically active. We have developed a Coaching Older People workshop in partnership with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust. This workshop is ideal for any coach or facilitator who is trying to increase adult participation in physical activity. Older People are more likely to suffer from health conditions, which might require an element of adaptation within a coaching session. The training will help you make your coaching as inclusive and accessible as possible to those aged 50+. You will learn about the ageing process and some of the common medical conditions that affect older people, along with adaptations and structuring sessions to be able to incorporate everyone. It will help you to gain confidence in your delivery, enable you to ask questions and to access future support from Living Sport around Coaching Older People. The three hour course will be free to volunteers within Sport and Physical Activity, with a £20 charge to those working in a professional capacity. Any money generated from these training events will go towards development of Walking Sports clubs in the county. Develop a more inclusive, welcoming environment in your coaching practice Dates tbc. This will also provide the opportunity for some networking.
